We chose this tour specifically to visit Vienna and the Christmas Markets. Neither of which were to be. Yes, we understand that Austria closed their borders and certain German states canceled their Christmas markets but Viking was unwilling to allow us to cancel our tour and instead referred us to the travel protection insurance company which of course denied our request as we did not have an 'emergency'. The on board experience was typical Viking as they did their best to make the most of the situation and to make us comfortable. But without the expected shore excursions it was less than enjoyable. Add to this the closing of the Netherlands while inroute made this journey anything but a 'Grand European Tour' and Viking should be ashamed to call it such. Adding insult to injury the airline routing was ridiculous as they had us route from Amsterdam to London to Chicago to Dallas when there direct flights to Dallas from London. As a final fail there were no Viking representatives at the airport in Amsterdam to direct us to the proper area to check into our departure flight. Kudos to the bus driver for attempting to help but ultimately their directions were inadequate. A final note, this review is being giving here as we are unable to find where we can submit a review on the Viking River Cruise web site.
