This was a 10 day cruise from SF to Cabo, despite it showing as a cancelled 15 day Hawaiian. Service was good with staff being attentive and up to Princess standards. There were only 670 passengers out of full 3000 capacity. Princess older fleet starting to show its age and Ruby is not exception.

The outer haul and some other outdoor areas, including balconies are full of rust, despite just recently being completely repainted. Missing light fixtures and bulbs, worn out furniture, laminated table numbers in dining rooms, instead of metal ones, single use (trash) plastic bags as a hair cape in spa, instead of usual nylon ones and list goes on. Buffet food was a major disappointment. Lounge background music was the same boring track ever since the ship was built (2008). Sometimes there would be no (dated) music playing at all. Making it feel like being in a ghost town, that on a fun cruise.

Because of reduced passenger capacity some venues were closed for an entire duration of the cruise. Lotus pool, the only heated one, was closed for the first 5 days. They only filled it up for two days before shutting down again due to stormy conditions for remaining portion of the cruise. Entertainment was really disappointing and awkwardly bad.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Dated decor and no electrical plugs next to bed. Carpet is new, but the rest of decor is original. Someone thought it would be a “great” idea to re-wire closet hallway ceiling lamp to be a ‘motion sensor’, instead of a switch, like before. The lamp would click on and off. Taping motion sensor off was the only solution. There are also LED motion sensor lamps next to nightstands. Too bright for the purpose. Also required taping motion sensor off. This was probably the most useless ”upgrade” in cabins.
