I have never cruised on Princess before, but had always heard they were a "cut above" most others, so I wanted to try them. This was a 10-night cruise that went to Cartagena, SA, and I had never been there before, so I was very excited. The itinerary started out going to the Cayman Islands, Cartagena, Panama Canal, Cristobal, Costa Rica, and Jamaica. A few months before the start date, the itinerary was changed from Grand Cayman to Turks and Caicos, which was fine, and then not long before the start date, Turks and Caicos turned into their "private island" which is really just a small portion of the beach on the end of Eleutrha in the Bahamas called Princess Cay. There is absolutely nothing to do there except lay on the beach. All shopping was Princess shops only. When we left there, we were notified that there was a medical emergency onboard and that we would be stopping in Jamaica to get the patient to the hospital and they would let us know about the rest of the trip. Soon they announced that we would be staying in Jamaica for the day instead of heading to Cartagena even though we had two days at sea and could have easily made it to Cartagena. I've been to Jamaica many times and didn't pay over $4000 for my sister and me to go there twice on the same trip again, but that's what ended up happening. We did end up going to Panama and Costa Rica and of course, back to Jamaica. This was by far the most expensive cruise I have taken and by far the most disappointing. I asked for some sort of compensation for the itinerary, but the response was just, "sorry, stuff happens and we reserve the right to change itineraries if we want to".
Besides the itinerary changes, the food was bland, and not much choice in the dining room. The buffet was good, much better than the dining room food. The service was fantastic! All the crew members were friendly and helpful, but that may have been because the ship was only about half full (which was nice). The ship seemed old and outdated, just nothing special at all. The entertainment was the same that you see on any cruise ship. That's about it, I don't think I would sail on Princess again and certainly wouldn't recommend it.
Kind of old and worn.
Nothing to do.
