Wow, Wow, Wow..... Did I say Wow. What a great time for my family and I. Let's start out by saying, I am NOT easy to please. How do I begin? The ship was at 30% capacity, all shows/activities/dining venues were open with the exception of the "Wine Lovers Show". The Covid-19 testing was seamless and easy. The crew was outstanding. I am going to write a long review here for those that read the reviews for education and guidance. Before I begin, my grammar and spelling are awful. My message is sincere.

We booked this cruise about a year ago. We had four cruises cancelled due to Covid-19 which is similar to most. This was originally scheduled for New England/Canada, then Bermuda, then Alaska and now the Caribbean. My wife and I did this itinerary in 2019 on the NCL Getaway. This cruise was supposed to be our 40th wedding anniversary two years ago and now it was my Daughters 31st birthday instead. That is the background.

We stayed in the (Don't hate the messenger, it was nuts how this happened) Haven (H2) Deluxe Owners Suite with Large Balcony which I will review below. We have stayed in the Haven before and loved it. I will attempt to but review the Haven and the main ship below.

Cabin Review

The Haven Deluxe Owner's Suite with Large Balcony

H2-Haven Deluxe Owners Suite with Large Balcony:

OVERVIEW:

Square footage of just under 1,500, this suite is the largest stateroom on the NCL Joy. The wrap-around balcony is over 400 square feet just on its own. The suite has 2.5 bathroom and two (2) bedrooms. The ½ bath is a guest bathroom located as you enter in the hallway. There are only two of these (H2) Deluxe Owners Suites on this ship. The location is on the right or left side of the front of the ship on deck 18. It is just above the Haven Horizon observation lounges and has the same view as the captain’s bridge.

BEDROOMS:

The sleeping arrangements can handle a total of 6 guest. That fact is a bit deceptive.

THE SECOND BEDROOM:

Is slightly larger than an inside cabin and a bit bigger then the second bedroom in the Haven Two-Bedroom Family Villa. It has a trundle bed which is above the couch. This allows a couple or two children to utilize it. In my situation, my adult daughter will have this bedroom which is a good thing. She will have her own makeup table, bathroom, and shower. She is a bit messy (my opinion only, I hate mess), and I would have to see that mess daily if she was in any part of the main cabin. For comfort I have ordered from NCL an Egg Crate Memory foam mattress topper. One thing to note, the sinks are very short as if to say this bathroom was built for kids. My daughter said she loved the room and also sleep very well. Two adults can do this room for sure.

SOFA-BED IN GREAT ROOM:

My adult son will be sleeping on the “Sleep-A-Sofa” in the main great room. It is a queen size so two folks could use it giving the 6-person capacity relevance. The great room area is private TV, lots, and lots of space with access to the main balcony, bar, and refreshments. We also have the mattress topper ordered for him. He said he was very comfortable.

THE MASTER BEDROOM:

Is just as you would expect it to be. King sized bed and flat screen TV. Room automation for lights and drapes. What you would not expect is the view from the bed. If you open the drapes, you will have an unobstructed view of the ocean. The view is of the right side of the ship. The bedding is top quality, and all the beds have a “pillow menu” if you don’t want a feather pillow. Uniquely, there is a small balcony with access for only the master bedroom guests with two chairs and a table. The issue was getting used to the lighting which can be confusing.

MASTER BATHROOM AND WALK-IN CLOSET:

The master bathroom is a showstopper. Large with a private toilet, shower that overlooks the side of the ship, and big soaking tub. It of course has a private makeup mirror and a double sink. The bath amenities are all upgraded, and the bathroom is made almost completely of stone.

The walk-in closet is as big as some ships inside cabins. Space and storage are not an issue in this closet. The closet will be used by my wife, son, and I.

THE GREAT/LIVING ROOM:

This lovely room has a fireplace and full bar. I noticed that the NCL Bliss and Encore do not have a fireplace. I am assuming that fireplace was put in for the Asian market before the retrofit. The bar is fully stocked (Very Unusual), and all mixers/soda/water items are complementary. This is the ONLY cabin or suite on the NCL Joy that provides complementary spirits, mixers, waters in their suite. They are replenished upon consumption. The only exception is the spirits. NCL gives you three bottles of spirits or wine complementary with the H2 Owners Suite when your cruise begins.

The suite has a dining table for four, full couch (sleep-a-sofa), chair with ottoman, and large flat screen TV. Storage all over the place. Access to the Master walk-in closet, balcony, and Master bedroom. The room opens to the front balcony. This room is huge on a cruise ship or in a luxury hotel.

THE WRAP-A-ROUND BALCONY:

The balcony is the envy of everyone on the ship. It is in three (3) areas. First is the largest part which is an unobstructed view of the front of the ship. On it is a dining table with four chairs and two lounge chairs. It is so large we have asked for two (2) more lounge chairs so everyone can be out there at the same time.

As you walk to the side of the balcony is the second area. You have a door which can block the wind if the ship is sailing quickly, or it is a windy day. The view was of the right side of the ship. This view and area are visible from the Master Bedroom.

The third balcony is small and private to the master bedroom suite. It is wind blocked on both sides and very nice for a private morning coffee or nightcap.

The only issue is since this balcony is in the very front of the ship, the wind is strong when the ship is cruising. The side balcony is shielded from the wind. Yet, if you are in port, it is the best view on the ship. I can see why this suite is so popular for the Alaskan voyages. GREAT view. Cozumel isn’t to bad either.

Port Reviews

Costa Maya

I don't go on these kinds of cruise for the port. What I like about it was the Spa Retreat. Interesting experience. I also like the short walk off the ship and right to the excursion. No bus rides.

Roatan

Stay on the ship. I have done the Jolly Rodger and the Over the Water All Inclusive Bungalow. Been there and done that. I will stay on the ship next time.

Harvest Caye

I love this place. The Zip line was awesome but the Beach Villa was a 10 of of 10
