Wife and I have sailed on approximately 30 previous cruises, and were platinum status with Princess when we boarded, but it has been several years since our last Princess cruise. This was our first cruise in over 20 years without our kids, so it was quite different. In short, we had a tremendous experience, but there were a few things we wish were better/different.

We were in a mini-suite in the forward area of the Aloha deck (12th floor). The cabin was great. Very functional, and the balcony, while small, was big enough for our purpose. FYI, I picked this cabin because I like to be able to look as directly down as possible to the sea or pier, without interference from lifeboats or other floors/balconies, and that was accomplished. Our cabin steward was excellent, and very responsive to the few requests we had.

Food was generally very good. We are not super discriminating eaters, but dining is a big part of the cruise experience, and we left satisfied in that regard, even if not overwhelmed. We ate all dinners in the aft dining room, and were served by Max and Max, who were fantastic. Only complaint was when we both ordered the prime rib, which was like eating a saddle, and in fact was so tough I had to spit it into my napkin. Everything else we ate in the dining room was at least "good", if not excellent. The buffet was disappointing though. The quality was alright, but the variety was very limited. Probably the worst buffet I have experienced in 30 cruises. My wife thought it was decent, so perspective matters, but even she conceded it was disappointing. Don't get me wrong, you wont starve; and if you find something to your liking the quality will be good, but it just has such a small variety of options compared to what we tend to expect on a mainstream cruise line. On the other hand, the salty dog, and the pizza on the pool deck were fantastic options. Great food quality for pool deck eateries. Tacos, pulled pork sandwiches, burgers, and chili-cheese fries all were fantastic, as was the pizza. Alfredo's was also a top notch restarant.
