The American Cemetery in Normandy

Because of Covid, this was the third attempt to take this cruise to Paris and Normandy and it was certainly worth the wait. This was my first river cruise since a Viking river cruise ten years ago. The first observation is just how much Viking has raised the total experience to a very high level. The ship is beautiful, the staff is beyond excellent. The food was terrific throughout. With only 102 passengers we all felt pampered.

What really makes all the difference is the attention to detail. I felt they thought about every passenger in making plans for embarkation, included tours, optional tours and disembarkation. Much of the credit goes to the desk staff and the incomparable Jorge. The lounge and dining room staffs were totally, totally professional while exuding a friendly demeanor, especially the twins, Zoltan and Dennis! The ship is a quiet one which very much suited the mature clientele but one night's entertainment was a duo who literally stunned everyone with their talent.

The included tours are of a very high level of excellence. You almost sense Viking hires the best tour guides available. Since Giverny closes at the end of October we were treated to a tour of the town where Van Gogh did his final works, died and was buried. The trip to the Normandy beaches involves a long bus ride but the day was one no one will ever forget.

Cabin Review

Veranda Suite with Veranda and French Balcony

We were able to afford the AA suite since when the original cruise was cancelled, they gave us a 25% credit for re-booking! It was pure luxury but to be honest I think one of the things about river causing is to get out of your cabin and view the scenery from an area where both sides could be seen.
