My wife and I recently completed our first Viking Ocean cruise onboard Jupiter for the Mediterranean Odyssey Itinerary. This was my first ocean cruise after having previously completed (and loving) 2 Viking River cruises. We choose Viking primarily for the destination-focused experience and this cruise did not disappoint.

We had no significant pre-cruise issues. We navigated the COVID-related certifications, testing and Verifly with minimal bother. We stopped in NY on the way (coming from CA) to visit relatives and so had to arrange for testing in the NY area to meet the 72 hour requirement. This went well. The various EU-required health certifications were a minor nuisance and request mostly the same information. We completed Spain before departing and on board had to complete Italy and Greece. The computer terminals near the Explorer's desk were busy those days! In general, folks were helping each other figure out how to get the darn things completed. No one ever asked to see these in any fo the countries. In a number of locations we were asked to see our vaccination records (much easier in my opinion to just keep the hard copy with you at all times with your passport in the same holder).

Cabin Review

We were assigned cabin 3043 which is close to midships and a couple of doors down from the stairs and elevator. This worked out great for us. Conveniently located near midships and very quiet. I would say we never heard anything from other cabins (except when outside on the veranda). Being on the starboard side, we were most often pier side, which allowed for watching the comings and goings on the pier, which we liked. We liked this cabin so much we booked this for a future Caribbean cruise.

Cabin was everything we expected and overall excellent. Our cabin steward Kai was outstanding and took care of everything we needed. We asked for ice to be delivered daily after dinner and it showed up reliably each day. We found the storage space was quite adequate, though we did almost max it out with souvenirs we bought!

The bathroom was excellent, with more than enough storage room so that each of us had a drawer for all of our toiletries and room on the counter as well for waterpick, shaver, etc. The only complaint (minor) is that it was essentially impossible not to get water from leaking out around the shower. It was easily contained by the provided floor towel/mat, but no matter what we tried, we could not stop it completely. This seems like a design flaw that is fixable. Loved the no-fog mirrors and heated floor.

Veranda was fine, and the table and chairs made for a comfortable place to read or watch the water go by.
