We had a beautiful cruise, probably my best of 8 previous cruises. We had great weather and a balcony cabin (the others in our party had window cabins)from which we were able to spot a humpback right off our balcony, baby seals at Hubbard glacier, bears and calving glaciers (listen for the rifle shot sound followed by the big boom). We also spotted hundreds of porpoises from the gym and orcas from Cosmos lounge. Take good binoculars. We especially enjoyed Milos, the naturalist on board. His presentations were funny and informative and he was available to answer questions and help spot & identify wildlife. My husband and I liked the entertainment on board, a couple of the dancers and singers were very good. I especially liked that they were available to get the party started on the dance floor in Cosmos lounge after the show. Katie Guglielmo on the piano in Michael's Club (a delightful and intimate piano bar) was a terrific. My daughter and I also stalked North by Northwest (A Cappella quartet) - amazing voices and very versatile. We prepaid our gratuities and in return received excellent service in a private wing of deck 5 of the Metropolitan Restaurant. We did have to make reservations, however. Our waiters, Ivan and Eko, were wonderfully attentive and remembered our requests (5 very picky eaters) from day to day. We had great bar service and avoided the hurry-hurry, noise and pressure of the main dining room with set seating times. Our dinners were very good and the high point of our trip. As others have pointed out, there is very little food choice if you do not choose a sit down dinner. We had room service once and it was the best fresh roasted turkey club sandwich I've tasted. Other highlights were the warm salt water pool (bring goggles if you swim)and the Aqua Spa with good coffee and organic muffins in the morning. We were disappointed in the lack of communication on board - I never got an invite for the Cruise Critic get together (if there was one), my single 20-something daughter didn't know there were single get-togethers until the last day of the cruise, we never got our mid-cruise bill or comment sheet that was mentioned, I had to make multiple requests for disembarkation info which did not match that of my 13 year old so he had to disembark on his own, we never (even with 2 trips to Guest Relations)received a comment card for our cabin or our kid's cabin (#2041), other guests in received 20th anniversary tie pins but never got them - just our daily newsletter (in Spanish, once, go figure). It was all rather strange. But our room was spotless. All in all I would recommend this cruise for the boomer set. However, there was nothing on board for my 13 year old as no other kids showed up for the teen lounge and my 23 year old daughter spent her cruise being chased by geezers. Next time we'll head for Hawaii.

Cabin 2B

Great balcony. Glass door was very noisy from the wind when there was a gale and when we ended up in Seward with all the noisy trucks unloading luggage at 4 am!
