This is our first sailing since 2019 on the Nieuw Statendam. The best part of embarkation is the warm welcome you receive from the crew. We were happy to sail and they were delighted to have us there. Embarkation went smoothly. We were there on schedule without any wait time. My only complaint is the number of check points required even though we did all everything online in advance. Be prepared to show each required document multiple times. Note: there were only 800 passengers on this five-day Bahama itinerary. Muster drill requirements were easy to follow. Food and service in each venue was very good. Music Walk, guest services, and all bars; excellent! The library was amazing with multiple copies available from some great authors. We did only use the MDR one time and later regretted it. They are amazing at what they do. All passengers obeyed the masking and distancing requirements respectfully. The Rotterdam VII sparkles with clean lines and beautiful decorations and art. Disembarkation was right on time. No delays in US Customs.
I must stress how hard the crew from Holland America works to keep you happy. They go above and beyond with excellent customer service.
Port side; towards the end of the hallway. This cabin felt smaller but I must admit we had a Vista Suite on our last sailing (2019). Excellent service by our cabin attendants. Great bathroom space with ample hot water and good water pressure.
Storage is standard. Don't forget the drawers under the bed. Luggage fits under the bed too.
Small Island. Expensive beach services, i.e., umbrellas and chairs. The weather was not warm enough to stay. We took the trolley service first then rented a golf cart to explore on our own.
Beware; there is no shade. We rented a clam shell and relaxed one day and explored the island on the other.
