Having sailed many voyages on Norwegian, Carnival, Disney and MSC, we were tired of the same old cruise formula that most lines use...A cruise director telling you where to go, fake Art Auctions, hairy chest competitions, ice carving...etc. If you've cruised a lot, you've seen it all way too many times. Virgin Voyages set out to change the cruise industry, and they have succeeded with the Scarlet Lady! If you're the type of traveler that wants to be constantly entertained or enjoys cruise director antics, and needs to be told where to be and at what time, this probably isn't the cruise for you. But if you are just as happy to find a secluded spot to watch the Caribbean float by as you are to watch a show or hit the casino, if you can find your way to the gangway without help, or if enjoy lots excellent food choices and equally excellent service, Virgin Voyages' Scarlet Lady is the ship for you.
Booking:
Booking was easy. We chose to call and speak to a crew member instead of booking online because we wanted to choose our cabin (The online system automatically books 'the best' room, but that isn't always the best option - ie: if you don't want to be above the night club or under the Galley). We used the call back option on their phone system and were quickly called back (Note: must be during normal business hours, but the system didn't give you any warning of this). The helpful crew member made sure we got the best cabin, and then took the time to give us some tips and tricks to make the most of our cruise.
The cabin was comfortable overall, and similar in size to other cruise lines' veranda cabins. The bathroom was a bit more cramped than other lines, but it was OK. The mattress was HARD. We did get used to it and actually slept well on it, but just be aware it isn't a luxury pillow top mattress.
The beach was nice and there were ample options for lounging - lots of lounge chairs, umbrellas, and 2 nice, large pools.
