The new Mardi Gras next to us in Cozumel.
Beautiful presentation of a dozen raw oysters from the Seafood Shack. Expensive at $24/doz but a fun and tasty splurge.

Embarkation day on deck.

Just back from a five day to Progreso and Cozumel. This is our first cruise in almost two years and we cruised with friends so we greatly anticipated this sailing. We chose this cruise due to it’s low price, departure port and timing ( we left the cruise and drove up to Houston for a wedding).

Initially, this was billed as an all-vaxxed, no mask cruise when we made our booking and deposit. As we all know, this changed in September. None of our party was excited about a masked cruise but figured it could get worse and we wouldn’t want to miss this opportunity. Carnival seemed to be spinning at first about how and when to get the pre-boarding test but eventually came up with the proctored home test which worked out well for us.

We made the bulk of the drive to the port on Friday stopping at our friends’ home to spend the night and then caravan the few hours to Galveston in the morning. I used EZ Cruise parking which is both economical (compared to other ports) and convenient. I booked parking at the same time we booked the cruise to ensure indoor parking.

Cabin Review

Typical inside cabin. Bed made into king. Lots of storage for two people on a short cruise. Snug but completely adequate bathroom. Cabin only serviced once per day and not at all on last sea day.

Port Reviews

Cozumel

We usually snorkel in Cozumel but since we were with friends and they enjoy the empty ship experience on port days, we just did a quick shopping walk ashore before returning to the ship to spa, eat burgers and enjoy the empty bars.

Progreso

Loved the excursion to Chichen Itza. We were let off the ship promptly to get to our bus for the long trip. Unfortunately, line cutters were taking down stantions and were mixing with excursion people causing confusion on the pier. I enjoyed the bus ride, the lunch and loved the short, but comprehensive visit to the ruins. We were the last excursion to get back to the ship. Not sure why Carnival has such a short day in Progreso. Also, heard complaints about how long the bus ride was. Don’t people read what the excursion entails?
