We booked one of the initial trips out of Galveston being that we were in desperate need of a getaway as was most everyone else. I have to day that Carnival made a good effort.

Embarkation - as might be expected, this was not a highlight. However, there were some unforced errors. The process of screening vaccination cards reminded me of a bad day with Russian customs. In particular, there was a very self important younger person whose name rhymed with the oldest city in the State of Georgia who seemed to be on a mission to ruin the experience for everyone contacted. We drew the short straw on this one. The embarkation process for upper level loyalty program members has bee drastically scaled down, which is an unfortunate reflection of the experience commoditization going on with this line. So we are tossed back into the cues.

Once aboard things started to smooth out. There were a few rusty spots, some of which were almost funny. You could tell that the crew was really making an effort to get back into the swing of things, so a little bit of slack was being cut by all. People were just very happy to be back at sea.

Cozumel

Cozumel is a safe bet for Galveston departures. As an island, it is separated from some of the potential challenges one might find on the mainland. There good things to find on the ship's excursion list if you look carefully and there are plenty of good beach resorts too. You know that you are in for a good time when a place advertises "Sorry, we are open" and there is really good snorkeling opportunities as well as Scuba. We usually enjoy one of those or going to the town square and Mercado sometimes for shopping and a good meal. This time we stayed closer to the ship, did our shopping in that area, and went back aboard to enjoy the extra solitude afforded by the smaller crowd. Next trip we plan to get back to normal on activities.
