Port Reviews

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata)

Getting off the ship was very disorganized. In fact there was no organization. In the past guests with a carnival excursion used to go to a lounge and get off first. Yesterday everyone lined up together in a hot stuffy corridor.

We did the taste of Dominican republic tour and I don't recommend it. It involved a lot of waiting around, and I mean a lot! Cigar stop was just in a shop, then onto gift shop, walk around the square and cathedral. My feet were aching by this point. Drive to chocolate factory, watched a video in a hot room, then to gift shop, tasting was a very small piece of 3 types of chocolate. Drive to lunch which was at a gorgeous location, and was a small buffet of, salad, meatballs, chicken, pasta salad, beans, rice, plantain, fresh fruit, and bread. Beers were $4 each, wine $5 a glass. Onto the rum factory, more waiting as they had mixed up our tour reservation. Lots to taste here, lots of samples to try. Then to the gift shop... of course! Buy the end of the day most people were tired and hot, it was about a 6 hour trip, all of it driving, walking or standing around waiting, except for lunch.
