We are currently still on our honeymoon cruise from LA to Mexico. Cabo was nice, we wouldn’t necessarily go back to Mazatlan or Puerto Vallarta, both are kind of dumpy, and not a lot of large beaches. Getting on and off the boat was a breeze with your medallion button, and our initial boarding at LA was fast and easy. The ship has been great, largest ship we have been on at 1100’ in length. Nice amenities on the ship. They have said the ship is at around half full capacity, so there have not been any lines to wait for anything. I’m sure it would be busier if full. The medallion class buttons we have are fantastic, what a great program. Unlocks your cabin for you, and gets you on and off the boat. You can order drinks and food, and they bring it right to you, as long as you are in a more populated area. You can also see anything you want on the phone app, and that was a neat feature too. It knows where you are on the ship, and can guide you anywhere you need to go. It is a state of the art feature that all cruise lines should have. In ports or on the ship, phone service and WiFi are exactly what you have at home, and we never had an issue. You can also find your shipmates as well.
We are a bit younger, and most of the crowd are older than us. This was only their second cruise out of LA since COVID, so no kids at all here now, guessing cruises have not totally picked back up yet. Crew have been fantastic as we would have expected. We have a mini suite with a balcony which has been much roomier, but haven’t really used the extra space. Our biggest disappointment has been the food. Not a lot of choices on the buffet, and the food has been mediocre at best. Not a lot of flavor overall and nothing has really “wowed” us. The crew serves you your food due to COVID restrictions, which has been fine. Once again, no crew issues at all, they have been great. We have been to all 3 of the specialty restaurants with great service, but once again, nothing really “wowed” us. The Chinese restaurant was probably the better of the 3 and has a Michelin Star, but it was Chinese food and just “ok”. They are all probably worth trying if you want to spend the extra $30 per person to get in, but don’t expect 5 star food. The main dining rooms have been the same, nothing in particular that jumped out at us. With only being at half capacity, we have been able to walk in and sit right down any place we have eaten with or without a reservation. Just overall surprised that the food has not been more flavorful or unique, a few good options here or there, but nothing spectacular. We are not food snobs by any means, but just expected more. We are just going to the main dining rooms the next 2 nights and hoping for the best. The 24 hour cafe is small and they do have some nice snacks, and it is nice to get coffee or other things any time you like. Unless you order a specific single type of drink at the bars, some have been mediocre with not a lot of flavor, but opinions vary on that I am sure. Have not seen a single Moscato wine option on any of the menus, and that was surprising as well. Overall has been a good trip so far, just not overly impressed by the food. We would do a Princess ship in this class again, and would hope they improve the food. We do plan on doing a Caribbean cruise early next year, and will give Princess a try again.
Great mini suite with balcony, nice to have the extra space even though we did not use it much.
So so, large city area.
