Cabin: Aft-Facing Mini-Suite with Balcony

Two cruises had been cancelled before we finally got to go on this one. My NCL agent booked us into an accessible cabin - it was aft and it was GLORIOUS. But let's start at the beginning.

Getting to Athens had its fair share of panic and anxiety - so much paperwork, so my i's to dot and t's to cross. We had it all, fully vaxxed, PCR test, Passenger Locator Forms, all the regular documentation. It was daunting. But once we got to Athens? Wow - happy happy joy joy.

The staff was so happy to see us, even though they had basically been trapped on the ship for three months (they were not allowed to go into any of the ports for fear of spreading Covid.) It didn't matter, everyone we spoke to was just happy to be back to work and happy to welcome passengers back for cruising.

Cabin Review

Aft-Facing Mini-Suite with Balcony

This cabin was amazing. The first time our NCL associate booked us into an accessible room (my mother is 85 and has mobility issues.) It was huge and the bathroom was fabulous. The shower was great, I thought there would be water everywhere, but nothing to worry about. The balcony was enormous and our steward was happy to put lounge chairs out there for us.

Port Reviews

Rhodes

The Grand Masters Palace was a fantastic excursion. Because we were following Covid protocols the group was actually split in two which was perfect for social distancing. Our guide was amazing and was a font of wonderful information. He was also really helpful with my mother who was using a rollator and needed help with the very difficult to navigate cobble stones.

Katakolon (Olympia)

Don't miss this port!!! Seeing the original Olympic stadium was astonishing. The site is actually quite large with so many ruins to explore. Can't say enough about this port.

Athens (Piraeus)

The Parthanon. That is all you need to know. Just go. Don't worry about accessibility issues, they have an elevator (although, you kind of have to beg to use it) but there are paths on top that allow any mobility device. The views are heart stopping and walking in all that history, is just an experience not to be missed.

Santorini

So - this was a beach break that was listed as an activity level 1. The beach was amazing - but if you have any mobility issues at all - BEWARE - there is a VERY lengthy walk ALL UPHILL to get to the cable car that gets you down to the pier. I suppose if you have the time to dawdle it's not so bad, but we were desperate to get back to the ship for our Cagney's reservation. I thought my mom was going to have a heart attack doing all the uphill walking (and I was huffing pretty hard as well!) Buyer beware! But beach was amazing!
