We booked this cruise in Feb. 2021 to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. We chose Viking because of the itinerary and the date. We had been on the Rhine River with a different company so thought we'd try Viking this time and couldn't have been happier. Whether or not the cruise would be canceled was questionable up to the days before because of the changing Covid status but Viking kept us informed almost daily. We were vaccinated (as were all passengers and crew) and couldn't have more pleased with the way Viking handled the ever changing situation. We felt safe every step of the way.
We opted to do the pre-cruise tour to Munich/Salzburg and were met at the airport by a rep that took us to the Munich Westin Grand (beautiful hotel). There we were greeted by our amazing tour hostess Viktoria who was with us for the next 5 days. We immediately had our first Covid test (sputum PCR). We were joined by one other couple and the 4 of us had more or less a very private tour of Munich and Salzburg along with Viki, a local tour guide and the bus driver. It was wonderful for us but sad for Viking that there weren't more people joining us. The areas we toured were not crowded.
On day 5 we bid farewell to the pre-cruise crew and boarded the Viking Ingvi in Passau. There we found out there were only 45 passengers on the ship this week so nevertheless we felt pampered on the ship as well. Obviously Viking spent the pandemic down time cleaning and sprucing-up their ships because the Ingvi was spotless. We were Covid tested daily (again, sputum PCR). The food and service were outstanding. Entertainment was the same every night (the pianist/singer in the lounge who was great), other than a singer that came onboard one night to sing songs from the sound of music.
Stateroom was clean and modern with plenty of closet and drawer space. The king bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was small but had shelves for toiletries, etc. and the Freyja products supplied were very pleasant (not overly scented). The outlet in the bathroom did not accept a 120V adapter so could only be used for a shaver. There were, on the other hand, three 120V outlets in the room so no adapter's needed there. The space between the end of the bed and the dresser area was a little tight. We chose a stateroom with a balcony which I don't think was necessary- I'd opt for a French balcony and take the extra room space if we did it again.
