Sail Date: Aug 2021

A friend had sailed on Emerald Waterways cruises in the past so I joined her on this Danube River Cruise with 2 other friends. We used our local tour agent to book and organized all the flights etc. She had her husband traveled with us on the cruise as well.

We were the maiden voyage after 18 months of not sailing due to Covid. We had a hiccup in that the river was too high to sail for a couple of days but Emerald more than exceeded our expectations in making it right by booking tour buses to take us to our destination for 2 days and them putting us up in the Inter Continental Hotel for 2 nights in Vienna until our boat could sail and catch up with us. They organized food and drink for us whenever we were off the boat due to the high water. We now understand that high water is an option when sailing the Danube due to all the bridges and locks.

Speaking of locks, that added interest to the sail by seeing the locks fill up and lower to move through the canals.

Cabin Review

The full length windows in the room made the room feel larger and allowed for great view of the river bank. Two different window shades were available: one to stop others from seeing in and the other was a blacken the room shade.

Twin beds would push together if needed or apart as we used the room. The beds and pillows were very comfortable.

The room had a Do Not Disturb light that was available.

Suitcases fit under the beds for easy access. Lots of storage for clothing in the built in closet and two large drawers.

The bathroom was small but well organized. The shower was great and the barn-type door would close quietly with just a push to start it. At night there was a night light that stayed on.

Since we only spent time in the room to sleep, the size of the room was more than adequate.
