I chose this river cruise line because of safety issues during the Covid-19 pandemic. I was a little stir-crazy from a year without leaving the house and decided to stay in the US after vaccination. This line caters to adults and has very small ships and very strict pandemic protocols. Currently, all passengers must have proof of vaccination and must be tested by medical personnel before boarding. The American crew must be regularly tested. Ships are small, and the American Star holds about 100 passengers and at the time limited this to 75% capacity. The itinerary was amazing - a trip around beautiful Chesapeake Bay! Although I don't live very far away, the small ports were mostly new to me. The food is the BEST I have ever had on a cruise ship. During this Crab Fest cruise they brought a huge amount of cooked crabs on board which were greedily devoured by the passengers, after a demo on how to pick a crab! Who could have much dinner after all-you-can-eat crabs caught that morning no matter how delicious? On various tours we learned a ton about the history of the area. We learned about Harriet Tubman in a heartfelt tour of her hometown of Bucktown, MD, and about Annapolis during Revolutionary and 1812 Wars. My husband and I couldn't have been more pleased!
