We haven’t been on cruise for a few years now and thought it would be good to get away without having to fly. We chose this cruise as it was adults only, all inclusive and reasonably priced. We also wanted to try Marella as we have heard good things, usual comment was ships are a bit older but service and food really good. The reduced capacity meant that it never felt crowded and relatively safe from a COVID perspective.

Speciality restaurants were good, highlight was the Dining Club, we tried Surf and Turf and also Kora La, they were good but if you only do one do the Dining Club. Main dining room was ok, service was really good, food was similar quality to most of the other lines we’ve been on (Cunard, Princess, Celebrity, HAL, RCI & P&O) There were some free alternative dining options, we tried Nonna’s for lunch good pasta and pizzas, would have been better if you could build your own pizza at lunch but this is only possible in the evening. Vista was an Italian alternative in the MDR and really good, with a slightly wider choice of wine. They also had the burger, hot dog place and also a panini and wraps place on the pool deck. We didn’t use the buffet a lot but it had the MDR food with some special themes each night, omelette station was really good at breakfast.

Upgrade to Premium All Inclusive worth the money at £10 pppn, gave free access to all drinks in the Coffee Port coffee shop, better cocktails, spirits/mixers, beers and cans of soft drinks including some diet drinks rather than fountain drinks which weren’t the best, you could pay as you went along but we think we got good value. Drinks were decent too and it was pretty easy to get served and most of the servers came to you for refills rather than you having to find someone. Only gripe was the wine list which was limited even on premium, we spoke to the bar manager about this as there was a strong bias towards Merlot and he arranged a Syrah for us on the last few nights, probably something Head Office need to look at.

Cabin Review

Cabin was spacious, we opted for this as we wanted the extra space and a balcony if the ship had to be locked down, we usually book an inside cabin. The suite had a larger balcony which was big enough for two sun beds and a table and chairs. Bathroom was great with Clarins toiletries and a big bath. Cabin staff were really good and on my birthday they decorated my bed with towel animals, balloons and petals, really nice touch. TV channels were a bit sparse and signal was sketchy at times but they had free on demand movies and TV box sets. US and EU plugs so take an adaptor, USB ports in the base of the bedside lamps. Large amount of wardrobe and drawers for clothing, took too much as usual!
