American cruise lines is dishonest. Oh my companion and I were on the cruise that was cut short bye covid 19. There were many problems on the cruise that were creating disappointment I had discussed among the passengers before the cruise was abruptly cut short by an announcement that four members of the crew had tested positive for COVID-19. How we were treated from that moment on until we were disembarking in Juneau was a new low bar for the industry. How we were treated yesterday when we received an offer from the cruise line for 30% refund after 50% of the cruise was canceled was just more proverbial icing on the cake. American cruise lines never asked to see proof that the passengers were vaccinated. It was not made clear to the passengers that staff and crew did not need to be vaccinated. An article in USA today states that two of the fully vaccinated passengers came down with COVID-19. It is statistically impossible. There are 162 passengers. If they were fully vaccinated, two could not statistically have gotten Covid while on the cruise.
Our cabin was wonderfully spacious but poorly appointed. We had no phone. We had no bathrobes. The towel bars and hooks in the bathroom repetitively came off the wall. The luxury bathroom toiletries were less then I would’ve received a two star hotel. We had Styrofoam cups for the Keurig coffee that were too thick to use with the machine. We received no drinking water glasses, so we found plastic glasses in the lounge that we brought back to the room.
The food was quite good, if only it had been served warm or hot. They had shortages of certain ingredients that made it difficult to adhere to the preplanned menus. Thankfully there was seafood available almost every meal. What a disappointment to receive the meals cold.
