An opportunity to take a weeks cruise on the latest MSC Megaship having had a number of cruises cancelled due to Covid at a great price including drinks and gratuities was a bit of a no brainer. Guest numbers were dramatically reduced to around 1000 to comply with The UK Government resumption of cruising rules, had conditions been normal the ship holds around 6400 guests. There were 1300 crew onboard so service was generally exceptional.

The Ship started its first seven day UK Staycation Cruise in Southampton with around 750 guests, I boarded in Liverpool along with around 250 guests.

Check in, passport checks, Covid insurance checks and a Covid lateral flow check was done at the nearby Liverpool ACC Convention Centre so that plenty of space was available. Luggage was transported and guests were bussed the short distance to the Cruise terminal in comfortable coaches. At the terminal hand luggage was sanitised, security performed and cruise card plus contact tracing electronic wristband issued. Entry to the ship was then permitted and rooms were immediately available to occupy.
