We cruised on The American Song through American Cruise Lines on the Columbia and Snake Rivers from Spokane to Portland. We chose this cruise because it was a domestic cruise, but most importantly because they touted their ability and concern for the health and welfare of passengers. That was not the case. We were supposed to be tested before getting on the bus for the port. Didn’t happen. Passengers refused to wear masks on the bus, and no one wanted to say a word. We were tested at the port, which was a little late. After several conversations with staff, it became clear that as the days passed, the concern for safety by mask wearing all but disappeared. This food and wine themed cruise did not remotely resemble the literature we were sent. In addition, a big reason for taking this cruise was for a visit to Mt St Helens. It was canceled and no one was notified. Since it’s been closed for over one year, they clearly knew this wasn’t happening. Sadly, they did nothing to add a day at any other port, especially Portland where we spent a day on the boat doing nothing. This trip was quite pricey, and it was sadly not worth it. A huge disappointment. I will say, the food was good and the staff were personable and helpful, however for over $10,000 for one week, it was a bust!

I would like to add that Portland was our disembarkation port. We embarked in Clarkston, WA which wasn’t a choice.

Cabin Review

For a new ship, the furnishings were relatively bland and not very attractive. Things were broken in the bathroom, and were ignored.
