Disappointing

Trip Details
  • Sail Date: Mar 2020
  • Destination: the Mediterranean
  • Cabin Type: Junior Suite

We chose this cruise as Our 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration, we chose FO as it promotes itself as a family run concern, but they are only interested in making money. Most of our disappointment does not particularly concern the quality of the cabin(we upgraded to a junior suite), the cuisine or entertainment, all of which were only acceptable, nothing particularly outstanding. The Phillopino staff were all very polite and helpful. The highlight of the entertainment were the Phillipino orchestra that played most evenings. We did not take a drinks packages, because we are not particularly heavy drinkers, but the meagre measures served, at an extortionate prices, would certainly be a guaranteed cure for an alcoholic.

Our main disappointment lays not with the cruise but with the protocol of the company.

Due to the fact that the cruise we were taking, from Limassol in Cyprus, via the Med through to Dover, was actually the tail end of a 6 month Grand Voyage, that had travelled in close proximity to areas where the COVID 19 virus had already gained a hold, our part of the cruise from Limassol should have been cancelled. It wasn’t cancelled by the company, despite several phone calls, voicing our concerns, because FO did not want to lose the money. If we had chosen to cancel, we would have lost the whole price of the cruise.

We joined the ship, after taking a temperature check at the port, the only temp check given till reaching Dover. Half of our ports of call were missed, due to entry to the ports not being permitted, this was obviously a situation outside of their control. During this period, little or no detailed information was given out, The ship at this point should have gone full speed to Dover, giving people a chance to get home before lockdown commenced and all flights cancelled, the company chose not to do this, but to take 6 days at sea in what could have been accomplished in 2 days, during this time there was virtually no internet, even though it had been purchased at great expense. This was obviously, so that FO, could quite legitimately say they had kept to there contractual agreement and provided a 14 day Mediterranean cruise. The cost of this needless delay in people being locked down in the UK, for many months could have and should have been avoided by a speedy return to Dover. Since having finally arrived home after 4 1/2 months we have had no apologies, emails, or show of concern or offers of recompense at all from FO or the agents that booked it, expressing any concern about the situation, will not be booking again.
