We chose this cruise because of it's itinerary. We have cruised a lot. In a nutshell, the ship itself met our expectations. Comfortable. Clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Food very good. Entertainment good. Our only disappointment were the excursions -- unless you pay extra, you get mediocre excursions -- mostly long bus rides. But the poor rating has nothing to do with the excursions. Our poor rating is because of the way Regent handled the Covid19 virus. Although the virus had spread to the area we were visiting before we left home, Regent would not consider any exceptions to their standard cancellation terms. None. No flexibility whatsoever. Hong Kong had closed its airport due to virus concerns, requiring a change in our outbound flight itinerary. Still, Regent refused to allow us to cancel without walking away from our entire paid fare. Later, when Regent abruptly cancelled our cruise in Bangkok (about 10 days before the scheduled end of our trip), they offered a full refund of the "paid cruise fare". But, unlike when we were paying for the cruise when everything was included (air, hotels, transfers, excursions, drinks, etc.), when it came time to refund our money, Regent determined that some things were not included. Air fare, for example, paid to Regent as part of the bundled price, was not to be refunded. When we asked them why the airfare was not being refunded, their answer was that the company President had decided that the airfare was not refundable. When we wrote the company President for an explanation, we received no answer. The result? We give Regent a poor rating on Cruise Critic. The virus is not Regent's fault. They probably did the right thing to stop the cruise in Bangkok. And, they did a workmanlike job of managing the chaos that ensued when the cruise cancellation was announced. But, they should have either allowed passengers to cancel without penalty before the trip began, or else they should have cancelled the entire cruise for everybody prior to embarkation.
