  3. Carnival Legend
My wife and I have cruised extensively on many cruise lines, and we recently sailed on a 7 day Carnival Legend cruise to the Western Caribbean. While we were not WOWed by the experience, there were several interesting highlights. EMBARKATION: was smooth and one of the quickest we have ever experienced. CABIN: We had an aft-facing balcony cabin on the 7th floor. We found the cabin to be a bit dated, but of a nice size, with good closet and drawer space. The bathroom was adequate with great toilet suction, but the shower was small and just adequate. One negative was the sink basin which had many black hairline cracks from age, that gave it a bad appearance. In the main cabin, we found the bed to be comfortable. A big negative was the small size of the TV and the small number of available TV channels. The balcony was smaller than we expected from an aft balcony partially because the glass railing slanted in toward the balcony. Big negatives were rust stains on the exterior of the ship, the dirty railing glass and the teak wood on the railing which looked like it had never been oiled (shame on the crew). The deck WAS washed once during the cruise. FOOD/DINING: We had mixed experiences dining in the main restaurant. The first night was noisy and service was poor. We tried it a couple more times later in the cruise on the upper floor and found great service. The restaurant had a great menu and selection, but the food was lack-luster and poorly presented with smaller portions. The buffet was just adequate, but did offer an interesting extra-charge seafood section with a large variety of seafood items. There was also an interesting sandwich Deli section. We also booked the Chef's Table which was nice with an enthusiastic Chef, but the food was average, the presentation below average, and the wine pairings virtually non-existent with no Sommelier! There WERE interesting positives however. The Legend Steakhouse was probably one of the best we have tried while sailing, with great service, food, and drinks. The hamburgers by the pool were also the best we have had on a ship; and the bread and ice-cream on the ship were excellent. ENTERTAINMENT: We didn't try many of the entertainment options, but the ship appeared to have a wide variety of bar venues for many tastes including a Pub, Nightclub, and Sports Bar; and quite a few daily activities. The CASINO was one of the largest we have seen on a ship. SERVICE: Service was generally good, but not universally excellent. Our cabin steward was very good. SHIP: As I have pointed out, the exterior of the ship is not well maintained. We did not notice any problems with the interior. The Legend has many areas to explore, some of which we never got to, such as the water slides. We did miss the presence of a shuffleboard area, preferably on the promenade. As I said, we weren't WOWed, but would cruise on the Legend again.
