We mainly decided to try Celebrity for the first time because of the reviews we had read of this ship (Summit) and because of the itinerary, plus the fact that these were the dates we were looking for.
We were not disappointed. The ship is beautiful. Everything looks so new & is sparkling clean. The colors are light & fresh, including the carpeting, etc. A favorite spot was the solarium. That pool is wonderful, especially after a day out touring in the heat & sun!
The Oceanview Cafe (buffet) was amazing. Everything you could think of, plus it was all spread out into different stations with plenty of seating & windows, making it feel so open--not like many of the crowded buffets on some ships we have been on in the past. They even had made-to-order pasta during the day & omelets for breakfast.
Food and service in the main dining room were exceptional. We sat in the same general area each night, so were able to get to know the waiters, sommelier, etc. The food on this ship was a step up from what we had experienced on our most recent cruises. There were excellent choices each night for dinner.
Our cabin steward did a great job as well. Everything was always clean and fresh.
The newly refurbished cabins are great. Even with an inside cabin, we had more than enough storage room for our belongings. The spaces are so well planned out. The beds were VERY comfortable, bathroom & shower were also good. Our cabin steward took good care of us, while not being intrusive.
One thing we missed was being able to set the TV to the ship's webcam overnight, so that we could see when the sun came up & when we were entering the ports.
We came in early and toured Old San Juan on our own. We enjoyed the city, the forts and the beautiful beaches.
We took a taxi (Rodney's Tours & Taxi Service) from the port to Reduit Beach. Our driver was very informative & pointed out many interesting sites on the island. He also picked us up at the predetermined time to return us to the port. We rented chairs & an umbrella & had a bite to eat at Spinnaker's on the beach. The beach was beautiful!
Very informative tour and driver (Mr. Grey's brother) in a large air conditioned van. Especially enjoyed the Brimstone Hill Fortress. Go to the top if you possibly can. The view is amazing. Also went to Timothy Hill where you can see both the Caribbean and the Atlantic Ocean. There was a beach stop at the end, although we skipped that part. Cute little restaurant/bar there--beach looked rather crowded. Some of our group stayed for the beach stop.View All 293 Island tour Reviews
Still more beautiful water and beaches. Took a taxi to Sapphire Beach, where we took our favorite photo of the trip. It was a long drive, since the driver dropped some people off downtown first. Much better trip on the way back. Did a little shopping in the port before returning to the ship.
