My husband and I booked this cruise in September 2009 for the unique itinerary and the appeal of sailing round trip from Seattle. We are both in our early 60's and this was our 14th Holland America cruise, our second to Alaska.

We flew a day before on Alaska, using FF miles. Our nonstop from Ontario, CA arrived at 9:30 A.M. We booked a precruise night and transfer with HAL at the airport Hilton. We were met by HAL representatives in baggage claim and directed to the Hilton shuttle. We were able to check into our room immediately. Since we have been to Seattle before, we chose to spend the day relaxing. The light rail terminal is within walking distance of the hotel and an easy way to get in to downtown Seattle. The Hilton was very comfortable, but the restaurant was expensive, and there don't seem to be any other choices nearby. The quality of the food was outstanding. At 11:30 embarkation day we were transferred to the ship. Embarkation was very efficient, and we were onboard before 1 P.M. We considered going to the Mariner Luncheon in the dining room, as the Lido was quite crowded, but were told it was just for 4 Star Mariners, contrary to information printed on HAL's website. Our rooms were available by 1:30.

We booked #3399, an HH on the Lower Promenade. We have booked this same stateroom in the past for its proximity to promenade deck and dining. Even though it is listed as fully obstructed, you can see out the window. The room was very comfortable, especially the leather sofa. The full bath was well stocked with Elemis bath products, and storage was plentiful. Our steward, Slam, was very personable and hard working. He kept things in tip- top shape.

Large Outside Stateroom (fully obstructed views)

Cabin HH

Under the entrance to the dining room. A little noise at times, but not a problem.
