A beautiful ship that needs some major editing for its future versions.

  • Destination: the Western Caribbean

Just off the Edge 2/23/20 Western Carib. I wanted to love this ship. I wanted to love the evolution from the Solstice class ships. That didn't happen and even being extremely optimistic, its just ok.

First off, The Edge is beautiful. The rooms are gorgeous, the furnishings are amazing. Food in restaurants is great! New Oceanview cafe is beautiful! However, these are the things that disappointed us because they matter most to us.

Martini bar: Botched!

Yes, its beautiful and stunning and even makes you say Wow! but it's no longer the Martini bar. It is truly the Passport bar. The seating is secluded and cut off.

We loved how on the Solstice class ship, it was a social oval shape martini bar that became the hub of nightly activity as people pass from dinner to the theater. It's a closed of hole that works well for small groups or couples. Its not somewhere tou can really hangout and be social without constantly being in the way.

Bar Staff: Where are they????

Bar staff is so thin, getting a drink is a struggle. Especially on sea day around the pool. They had two servers walking around the pool and 2 bartenders... thats it. Waiving down a waiter was almost impossible and then your drink would come 40 mins later. We gave up and just went to the bar and waited 20 mins each time.

Shade: Where is it????

There is a severe lack of shade in popular areas. Let me explain before I get roasted. Can you find shade?, yes! However, it's secluded and off in it own space. You can't be in the middle of the action around the pool and find shade like you can on the solstice class.

Sunset Bar: Ruined

The sunset bar is a sun roast, no shade. Not even for the workers. Why would you change this from the whole concept it is on the Reflection??? It was good on the Solstice, Equinox, Eclipse, and Silhouette and perfect on the Reflection. Now the space is spread out, everything is sun baked, you do not want to hang out there cause its so hot all the time.

Hot Tubs: They Sure are pretty

Thats it. If you like to go from your chair, to the pool, to the hot tub back to your chair and repeat, this would involve climbing two levels and descending two levels each time. God forbid you need a drink when you climb up to the hot tub, cause you'll have to go back down and wait 20 mins for a drink.

Infinite Verandas: It's a window.

If you like to sit on the balcony and experience the ocean, sunrises, sunsets, breeze, views and enjoy a drink, breakfast or even dinner... thats all gone. This is a room with a window that goes down. Your A/C will cut off when you open it. Its takes a noisy 50 seconds to go up and down. There is no curtain, its an electric roll shade that also requires a noisy 50 seconds to go up and down. The room, bathroom and furnishings are pretty though. Hopefully they discontinue these on after the Apex, a waste.

The Edge is a beautiful ship, her furnishings are beautiful, albeit somewhat beat up for being 14 months old. However, we miss the solstice pool area, the hot tubs on the same level as the pool, shade at the center of the pool, regular balconies, the sunset bar (especially on the Reflection). While some people may not care about these items, these are things we loved the most on the Solstice class ships and they have all been changed ... for the worse. Will will be back on the Edge or Apex, probably but I hope you are listening Lisa!
