This is brief critique of our experience on the Edge. Others have accurately described some of the pros and cons in great detail. For us, who have been on 50+ cruises on a variety of cruise lines, we generally cruise with a open mind. We found the food and service to be as excellent as Celebrity’s reputation has always been. We found a lovely crew who bent over backwards to make us happy and found no bad actors or attitudes. Refreshing.
That being said, I had a love/hate relationship with the ship itself. As an art lover, the paintings, sculptures and photography were top notch, with the exception of the bizarre entrance into the Eden section of the ship. Think Dante’s inferno! What a waste of much needed passenger space. The ship decor is very high style and definitely different but attractive for the most part.
As others have said, the flow is strange. My disabled husband rented a scooter and we found ourselves in dead end areas often. The bow of the ship is restricted to us in “steerage”. In reality we had a Concierge cabin. More about that later. The Infinite Veranda is a joke. If you love a hot humid cabin by all means use it. The AC shuts down the minute you raise the window.
The pool areas have no tables and chairs off to the side as on other ships. Only low loungers placed chockablock making it difficult to even get into one on crowded sea days Folks wanting to play cards at a table had to sit inside. I will say they do have a Hoyer type lift which made it possible for my husband to enter the pool. The walking/jogging track outside was very nice and nicer than most.
The martini bar is difficult to enjoy. The actual bar is tiny as is the dance floor.
We did enjoy drinks on the Magic Carpet but the hours were limited. The Sunset bar was fun at night if not too windy but has no shade during the day.
Our cabin was mostly great. Best bathroom layout ever for a non-suite cabin but small closet. Storage places hidden behind seamless paneling. Didn’t find half of it until mid cruise! Found the hairdryer thanks to our cabin steward the last day but always bring my own anyway. The concierge was worthless. All she did was leave messages on our phone. The afternoon appetizers were recycled food tidbits.
In closing, we did enjoy this cruise thanks to the crew and lovely Captain Kate and if they ran another great deal with the 4 Perks we would do it again but in a traditional balcony cabin which are limited in number.
Deck 11 was a great location.
