We chose this cruise over Valentine's Day for our group of 12 as it fit perfectly with the kids traveling with us school schedule that allowed them a few days off for a winter break. We had 4 adults in their 20s, 2 in their 30s, 2 in their 50s, and 4 kids aged 6, 11, 12, and 14. This was the kids very first cruise as the rest of us are experienced cruisers. We are big fans of the Carnival Sunshine so were excited to try out the Carnival Sunrise. It was not quite the exact same as the Sunshine, especially the Serenity Adult Only area being smaller than Sunshine, but overall it is a ship we enjoyed. We really enjoyed being able to sit in the Sports Bar and watch softball since we are big fans and pleasantly surprised to see it being aired on board.

The food options on this ship are wonderful. Breakfast is offered in the dining room, lido buffet, Guy's Burgers Breakfast, Blue Iguana Breakfast, omelette stations, the Lucky Bowl even had different options. For lunch, you can have the buffet, if its a seaday the dining room is serving until 1, Guy's Pig and Anchor BBQ, Cucina del Capitano, Guy's Burgers, the Deli, Blue Iguana Tacos and Burritos, Lucky Bowl, Pizza, and Ice cream. Dinner we had assigned dining at 6pm which was our first time having early dining our Carnival. We thought we wouldn't like it, but honestly it went so much faster than late dining since the table had to be cleared by 8pm and we loved being finished by 6:30pm every night.

This was the first 4 day cruise we had been on in awhile. We typically go on 7day+. This limited our opportunity to try and do as much as we want to on board. We enjoyed the sports square with Putt-Putt, the waterslides were fun, but not as big as the Sunshines, and the trivia/entertainment was pretty good on board. We enjoyed the violins playing in the atrium most nights. The kids seemed to enjoy the youth programming offered. We did wish the pictures were updated to digital with the ship remodel, but they were not. Overall its a beautiful ship perfect for a family vacation. The service was very good all around. Our room on deck 5 was awesome being close to the action and activities on board.

Cabin Review

Ocean View

We had 4 adult guests in our Ocean View Room. We had it set-up as a bed put together, a bunk bed above the couch and a couch bed. We had plenty of storage for the 4 of us with ample closet space, plenty of drawer space, and even additional open cabinet space. We enjoyed having multiple outlets and USB ports all over the room. Specifically, an outlet at the desk mirror along with USB, an outlet above the bed and USB, and USB on the bedside lamps, as well as outlet in the bathroom. The TV was a very large flat screen in the room which was great. Our cabin steward was attentive bringing us fresh ice each day and awesome towel animals. The bathroom was a standard Carnival bathroom, but worked well for the 4 of us sharing it. We did have loud noises from inside the walls happening each morning which we never identified what it was. The room location was amazing right next to elevators, a public bathroom, the piano bar, alchemy bar, and Red Frog Pub. It was a short walk to the Casino and Sports Bar.

Port Reviews

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Parking deck is being remodeled so it was a little difficult to park. The boarding pass attendant was rude and absolutely incompetent to the point we had to check-in at customer service. Never have had that happen in 20+ cruises.

Half Moon Cay

One of the most beautiful places on earth.
