Our stateroom is magnificent (Aqua Class).
The theatre is outstanding.
The food and service in the restaurants is up to Celebrity’s usual standard.
The entertainment is very good.
The Bad and the Downright Ugly.
The pool area and deck space are OVERCROWDED with sunbeds jammed together in rows.
The public spaces are OVERCROWDED with people racing to grab seats .
On Millenium and Solstice ships the sundecks extend to the very front of the ship and there are loungers on the promenade deck.
This is not the case on Edge. At least one third of the sundeck is taken up by suites and their facilities. There are no loungers on the promenade deck.
There is no Sky Lounge.
The design of the bars is awful.
There are 2 open air bars on deck. They have no shade and one of these bars closes at 19.00.
The Magic Carpet is often closed when the space is used as a fee paying ($95 pp !!!) restaurant. Otherwise it’s difficult to get a seat.
The casino bar is a typical casino bar.
The Martini Bar is set in a windowless pit. The Club is an airless windowless black box.
The table service in all bars is almost non existent!
Blu Restaurant - service and food excellent but location of the restaurant (looking out at a lifeboat station) is the worst on this ship and the fleet.
Confidentially - some officers and crew confirm these observations
I have raised all these concerns with the Guest Services Manager. However, there is nothing she can do about the design of the ship.
I have asked if , for the second week cruise, we can pay to upgrade to a suite. Non are available.
Xfer to another ship - not possible.
cancel the 2nd week and receive a refund. Not possible.
At present we are considering walking off the ship and taking the “hit” on its cost.
The design of this ship is SERIOUSLY FLAWED eg one officer commented “the bars have been designed by someone who has never been in a bar”.
No two ways about it - Excellent
