  3. MSC Divina
We chose this cruise because of the itinerary. It was the first time cruising with MSC. Embarkation was excellent. We were on the ship in about 1/2 an hour. We paid extra for the Fantastica experience. This allowed us a higher level cabin, wifi ( limited but it was perfect for us), and unlimited beverages costing $6 or less. The beverage package was just fantastic and saved up tons of money. Our cabin (13096) was on level 13-big mistake. We heard lots of noise from the pool deck on level 14. We were awakened every morning by the deck chairs being prepared for the day. And we could hear the music blasting from the pool deck in our cabin, every day. The Divina is a beautiful ship. It's very pretty, with lots of bars and lounges. Everyone talks about the crystal staircase, which is quite stunning. However, the boat is too small for 4000 passengers. The boat was overcrowded in the evenings and on sea days. Too many passengers, not enough seating, not enough elevators. We thought the service on the ship was fantastic. Every staff member we encountered was wonderful. Dining was good. The food was fine-not gourmet, but absolutely acceptable. Unless you have high status with MSC, you will not have anytime dining. I thought we signed up for this, but we were given a 6 o'clock dining time and we were placed at a table with 3 other couples. At first we were quite annoyed by this. However, 6 o'clock worked out perfectly for us. And our dining companions were all terrific people and our dinners ended up being one of the highlights of the cruise. Service was great, food was good. Sea days were a huge problem in terms of getting a lounger or table and chairs on the pool decks. I woke up at 6:30 AM on one of the sea days and ALL the loungers were already taken. I think that people may have come out in the middle of the night, maybe after a night of partying, and placed towels on the loungers and chairs to reserve for the next morning. And the staff did nothing to rectify this problem. This is one of my major complaints since it was quite stressful having to wake up to early to get 2 loungers. There weren't enough loungers and chairs for all the passengers. We purchased the spa package before we left for the cruise. We were VERY DISAPPOINTED. Do not believe the photos you see online. The Divina does not have ceramic heated loungers in the spa. And the small square mineral water pool you see in the photos is for rent at $200 per hour. So basically we paid $100 each to use 3 dry and 3 wet saunas. A real rip off. The entertainment of the cruise is the ABSOLUTE WORST I have every experienced on a cruise. It is beyond terrible. We went to the first few shows and we thought we were at a year end high school musical. Mediocre talent (same singers performed night after night after nights, offensive and gaudy costumes, shows with themes that didn't make sense. Totally unsophisticated, tasteless entertainment-at least to North American audiences. The entertainment was the biggest disappointment. The cruise director and cruise management should be ashamed of themselves. The excursions were mediocre. All of them were extremely disorganized. Our first excursion, a beach day in Oshos Rios, Jamaica, was an utter disaster. It took is over an hour to get off the boat. And then another house, at the pier, waiting for a bus to take us to a beach. We passed beautiful beaches on our way, but unfortunately after 45 minutes on a bus, we were taken to an ugly, small beach. Our excursion to Panama was interesting, since we went to the Canal, however our guide was mediocre and wasn't able to offer interesting information during our tour of Panama City. One of our stops was in Cartegena. We took a cab from the ship into the city ($20 for 4 people), paid for a Hop On Hop Off ($50 for 2 people), which was fantastic, and walked around the old city on our own. We didn't want to chance another mediocre excursion. Lastly, 90% of the ship were Europeans-Eastern Europe, Germany, Scandinavia, French, Italien, and Spanish. All I am going to say is that as Canadians, out idea of etiquette, politeness, grace is very different from some other cultures. So, did we have a good time on the cruise-yes. We had great weather and made some good friends. Would we every cruise MSC again? NO, NEVER!!!

I didn't want to believe all the bad reviews, however, unfortunately.....

Cabin Review

Fantastica Balcony Stateroom
Cabin B2
Do not book a cabin on the 13th level. This in 1 level below the pool deck. We heard lots of noise coming from the deck chairs being prepared for passengers, every morning between 5:30 and 6:00. And you can hear the music blasting from the pool deck all day.
