Oceania Sirena Mayan Mosaic Cruise Jan 25-Feb 1 , 2020

Nice ship, good service, Wonderful food - Itinerary Not Very interesting

This cruise, Mayan Mosaic, was a replacement for a Cuba cruise which had to be cancelled because of the travel ban. We decided that we would like to take a winter cruise to take the “edge” off of a Pennsylvania winter. The cabins were particularly affordable because of the cancellation of the Cuba Itinerary. We choose a P1 penthouse suite 8025 as it was only a few hundred dollars more than our usual Concierge suite.

We started our trip a day early traveling from Dulles DC airport to Miami. We booked our hotel through the cruise line ( a tad expensive) but the hotel the Miami East was 5 star, brand new and in the center of a beautiful mall. Our transfers to the hotel and to the ship went off flawlessly. The day of the sailing however the ship was late arriving and we were delayed in our departure from the hotel for which Oceania gave us 80 credit to have lunch at the hotel (you needed that much we actually spent more) good marks there. Once we were transferred to the terminal it was full of passengers as the boarding had not started yet. We waited about an hour and finally got on the ship at about 2:30 vice 11:00 which is normal for P1 passenger suites. When we got on our luggage quickly and the room was ready for us immediately.

My Ratings

Room was generous proportions everything was in good order and almost brand new looking. Location was excellent mid ship Port side.

Service The Butler and steward were excellent they saw to our every need and any request we had they fulfilled.

Dining The food in the main restaurant was outstanding and we ate dinner at the specialty restaurants 3 times in 7 nights twice at the Asian fusion and once at the Italian/ Steak restaurant. All the food was excellent 5 stars.

Entertainment This part was disappointing tired old comics, magicians and an impressionist who did impressions of people who have been dead for decades. Kind of reminded me of cruises we took 25 years ago. The show room did not have a stage and this is the only cruise I have been on, other than a river cruise, that didn’t have a one. There was a show with the singers and dancers but did not see it do to dinner going very late that night.

Shore side activities We went ashore in Key west and bought a ticket on the conch Train and enjoyed the day find places on our own. The other three stops Costa Maya, Roatan and Harvest Cay were tourist traps. On Roatan We docked at the old cruise ship dock and only thing to see were the usual shops you would see at any Caribbean harvest Cay I swam in the giant pool they had but little else interested us. On Costa Maya the place was jammed like Times Square on New Years eve. It had all the exotic charm of my local mall.

The ship was by and large excellent but the beautiful library was closed until the second to last day on the ship do to it needing to be “sanitized” we found out. My wife wanted to use the library to do some quite reading and was disappointed.

I would rate this cruise as excellent mostly do to the accommodations, food and service. The itinerary was not the cruise lines fault per say they were trying to recover from a political situation they had no control over. We will certainly consider Oceania again provided they have an itinerary we would be interested in.
