I’m aboard the Edge as I write this on day 7 of a 7 day cruise. The crew is as you would expect, top notch. We have always noticed the difference in the quality and attentiveness of crews on Celebrity ships and the Edge crew are among the best. Helpful, smiling and go out of their way to please. The ship many write on Cruise Critic is beautiful, well it’s new and the paint is fresh, the carpet is new but the layout, amenities and activities are not what I’ve come to expect on Celebrity ships. The decor is ok and getting drink service at the pools is hit and miss. A big disappointment is so called “Infinite balcony”. It is like having a non-balcony room with a window, I absolutely hated it and would never book a room with this again. You don’t have the experience of a balcony because it’s just a big window the top half of which is motorized and lowers to chest height and when lowered automatically turns off the room a/c. So your choices are to keep the window up and have room a/c but no ocean sounds, or lower it and the room is warm and muggy. We kept it closed most of the time. Typically at night with a standard balcony room we would open the balcony sliding door a crack to get the best of both. Oddly the large TV in the stateroom is flat mounted on the wall opposite the bed and can’t be viewed from the couch, it is fix mounted so you can’t change the angle for couch viewing. The bathroom is terrific, larger and with a nice large shower as well that features a shower head with 4 buttons to choose various water flows. There is no grand dining room where you get to know your wait staff throughout the cruise as well as fellow cruisers, instead there are 4 smaller dining rooms with a closed in feel and low ceilings. This makes getting a reservation in your choice among the four difficult. We had dinner one night at the Fine Cut steakhouse and highly recommend it, everything from the service to the food was outstanding. The few bars lack ambiance, they are too open and not a welcoming place to hang at. The exception is the casino bar which is good and with a terrific bar tender. As a craft beer fan - this ship has nothing to offer. The beers available are what you would expect at a local restaurant or chain (Bud, Coors, Guinness and the like). That was disappointing as other Celebrity ships we’ve been on had an interesting selection. The casino is nice and bigger than many ships we have been on, has newer machines and not cramped. There are no on board shops of interest. Shopping on board is dominated by Tiffany, Cartier and high end shops. The furniture throughout seems chosen for form and not function, finding a comfortable place to sit in public areas is a challenge. Anyone with ambulatory issues will be challenged with too low and in some areas too deep chairs that leave your legs dangling off the end. Entertainment was not at all special or memorable. The comic one night was the only one laughing at his act, people began to leave after 10 minutes. Thankfully the act was only 45 minutes long. The ship seems designed and operated for a different demographic. While Celebrity is our cruise line of choice I would not book on this ship or this class of ship again.

Would not choose the Edge again
