Went for a seven day Caribbean cruise. Casino was right in the middle of ship, column went up five floors. Stench from smoke in casino filled at least 70% of ship. Couldn't walk anywhere without getting nausea.
First day of trip led you to Punta Cana which was locked down for the Sunday. ONly one store open. So what do you do ? Go to the mall which is half empty and only sells products residents want. There were a couple of decent restaurants there. Nothing else to do for the day. Why start you trip in a dead town ?
Royal Caribbean stock is up from excess profits they make. Everything has an 18% gratuity attached, even if no service rendered. And they expected you to tip as well, all the time.
Cabin was comfortable and enjoyable. Glass door needed lubrication, it squeaked all the time
This is a nice town to discover and that is what we did, on foot.
Old French port and it was dismal. Euros required. Merchants were out to scam you. Euros and US$ were treated as equal - not so.
Driver gave us a two hour tour of old city and we saw the good parts. He even took us to airport when we were finished.
We love this island, so much character and things to do. Been here before.
It was Sunday and literally dead. Nothing was open, nothing to see.
