price and destination was our choice for first time on a MSC cruise. Sometimes you get what you pay for and this was one of those times. We were able to transfer points from Carnival and go aboard as Gold members which we thought was a plus as well. This only got us a plate of fruit you could get at any buffet and a tote bag. There was a spa hour offer but it was for sauna and relax area only. If this had been our first cruise ever, maybe we would have been more impressed. But since we are avid cruisers it was a different story. Ship was beautiful and well laid out. Lots of space and staff was friendly overall. Food was bland and basically the same everyday. Lots of pasta with different sauces. Food was usually warm and never hot at buffet. Dinner was good but same story here. No lobster, even though it was a 7 day cruise. Getting on and of ship took over 2 hours each. We were he 4th group to exit. Announcements were made in about 7 different languages, which were mostly ignored. Kept being told this was how Europeans cruise. Very laid back and boring with lots of drinking. Shows were filled with ballroom style dancing, slow music and man/women trying to sing American music with accents that made songs sound quite different. If you did not know the music, you would not know what was being sung. Tina Turner with an Italian accent is not the same! Acrobats and aerialist were fabulous, they made the show worthwhile. When we saw there was only singing we chose to not go. Activities onboard were not interesting to us. Chair hogs claimed chairs several hours ahead and disappeared. No one moved towels even though it was evident that no one had been there for some time. Child was allowed to pee in shower area. Europeans are rude, at least the ones on this ship were. Cutting in line, talking during announcements, coming in late, loud, etc. Music played at pool area and elsewhere reminded us of riding in an elevator. One slide on ship, but if you were not certain level you could not use. Gelato was free on some ships but not on this one. Orange juice only available at bars, where you had to pay. There were some good things as well. The price was great for a balcony room that was beautiful and spacious. Room was cleaned by simply placing card in door lock. Although room steward never introduced himself. Servers at dinner were great as well. They tried very hard to make up for inadequacies of food. Destinations were good especially Tortola. Since we had balcony we enjoyed our own time setting and enjoying the privacy and views. Maneuvering around the ship was easy and open floor plans. Activities during the day were repetitious and not very interesting. Met several new friends which was a plus, they had same opinion as we did. If not for price they would have complained although some did anyway. We did our own thing most days and still enjoyed the time and experience of destination. We would do again, but only if same great price and new locations to visit. Again, if this had been our first cruise maybe we would have been more impressed. Great cruise if you like slow pace and lots of pasta. If you are looking to relax and spend a lot time people watching. Oh I almost forgot, one plus...pizza was really good! Like I said, will we do again? Probably if it is cheap enough. Otherwise, Carnival and Royal are our choices for fun/food/shows cruises. They also need to work on getting people on and off better. Lots of lines and people not listening to directions.
