  • Destination: the Mediterranean

We'd travelled on Viking Sky on our honeymoon, and knew the exceptional level of service that Viking aim to deliver, so this was a much anticipated opportunity to relax.

Cabins are all outside, all with balconies and furniture, so there was a wonderful sea view all the trip,.

Cabin was really well cared for by the housekeeper for our section, right down to fresh ice delivered twice a day, and swapping all our sodas for tonic water, to go with the gin we took with us....a g& t on board will cost you £11...if that's all you drink each evening take it with you, as the on board complimentary wine and beer witheals is excellent, and regularly topped up!

Otherwise, stump up £15-£18.50 a day each for the silver beverage package, and all your drinks are included all day....there didn't appear to be anyone drinking the day through on our boat.

Food is simply stunning.

Emphasis on presentation, flavour and skilled, attentive service in all of the restaurants, again all included in the price.

Pool bar grill doing fresh steaks, burgers & chicken, with a superb and varied salad bar was our favourite for lunch...world cafe self service for breakfast... although we never got to the restaurant for breakfast we intended to!

Seating in the restaurant is done by maitre d ...tables for two the majority, or a few tables for four or larger.. menu is varied every day..some standbys..striploin steak, chicken breast, salmon fillet....along with a regional menu reflecting the current whereabouts of the ship, and a larger more fine dining menu. Collared shirt and trousers are the minimum dress required for any of the restaurants in the evening....this is a strictly above 18 cruise...no children anywhere!! It's wonderful!!

There's a spa with snow room sauna and plunge pool...all included, plus evening shows in the theatre.

Afternoon tea in the winter garden, accompanied by either the concert pianist, the string quartet or the classical guitarist every day.

Two pools, small, but adequate for the 930 maximum passengers....and there's loads of secluded comfortable places around the ship to sit and read, relax, take in the view....our favourite is the upper part of the Explorer lounge, on deck 8 .

Staff are welcoming, proficient, and plentiful....never had to wait long for anything!

There are a wide range of excursions on offer, at least one included one in each port of call.

On our honeymoon trip, we booked morning and afternoon trips, then found ourselves rushing to keep up with the schedule, and not giving ourselves time to enjoy the ship.

This time we just did the inclusive tours, and were entertained and informed on each.

I'd thoroughly recommend this for anyone in their active 50's, 60's etc who loves history, architecture, classical music, fine food& service, and a level of effortless comfort that makes your holiday a real break.

Cabin Review

Cabin deluxe veranda 452

Beautiful. Lovely comfortable king-size bed, fresh linen daily, lovely Freya toiletries, soft water spacious shower, two armchairs, coffee table, dressing table with fridge...and complimentary tonics, toblerones and nuts, refilled every day.

It's lovely sitting on the veranda with a drink watching the sun go down.
