We chose this cruise because first it is an area of the world we wanted to see and second because we have cruised with Viking before and really enjoyed the experience.

We started with a pre-extension to Patagonia. We visited both Terra del Paine and Los Glaciares National Parks. Both were beyond beautiful.

After the Patagonia pre-extension we boarded the ship in Buenos Aires. We had ports of call in Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Punta Madryn, Falkland Islands (which we had to skip because of high winds) Ushuaia, Punta Arenas, Puerto Montt and finally Valparaiso. We did have quite a few sea days and if sea days are a problem this cruise is definitely not for you.

Most of the ports of call are small poor areas with not a lot to see as far as cities and building. They are more focused on the beauty and nature of the area.

As far as the ship goes. The Jupiter is the newest of the Viking Ocean ships but it is pretty much identical to their other ships. It is a beautiful ship, plenty of public areas so I never felt crowded, the cabin was large (PV level) with plenty of storage and drawer space. Service and crew are the best. Every request was promptly filled.

Overall we loved the cruise!

Cabin Review

Wonderful cabin! Clean, lots of room, comfortable bed. Veranda has great view of bridge as we were just down on deck and aft from where the bridge sticks over the side of the ship. Waved to the captain and crew a few times.

Bike Tour

It should go without saying that if you book a bike tour you should be able to ride a bike...someone on our tour didn't get that message and it slowed us down until they gave up and returned to port. Other than that it was a great way to see the city. I especially loved the rose garden we stopped by.

City Tour

Great guide who was a history teacher, but the tour was your average tour by bus...

Winery Tour

Tour started out with a pointless city tour. Once that was over the tour to the winery was very nice. We got to see the vineyards and grapes. The cellar was old and beautiful. The wines were good and the food spread was delicious.

Horseback Riding

We rode up and over a ridge on narrow muddy trails. Beautiful views but I was very happy my horse knew where to put his feet.

Pantagonia Walking Tour

Rode up a scary chair lift and hiked down. The views from the top were beautiful and the hike through the trees and along the river was very nice. Our guide was extremely funny and knowledgeable. We had a really good time on this tour.

Alerce Andino National Park

We did a cruise on Emerald Lake on a perfect cloudless day. The views were stunning.
