We wanted a Nordic cruise, and Viking offered an excellent itinerary with "Into the Midnight Sun." This cruise offers a great look at the coastal cities and fjords of Norway, with later stops at the Shetland and Orkney Islands and then Scotland and England. We added a three day trip to Oxford that included visits to Blenheim Palace and Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey) and loved it!
The ship was beautifully laid out, and we enjoyed exploring it. Restaurants were excellent, and one favorite was Mamsens (for breakfast, and for trivia game days.) Having so many restaurants available kept things interesting, and there were many days where special items were offered...like a crab lunch special one day, a waffle breakfast buffet another. There were lots of activities to keep everyone occupied, and quiet spaces as well, if you just wanted to be out of your cabin, curled up in a comfy nook with a good book. The days at sea were so pleasant and relaxing! And of course there were amenities to enjoy like the spa, shopping in the gift shops, etc. We loved that there was no pressure to buy anything.
We enjoyed many excursions, adding things like a family farm visit, the cable car ascent in Tromso, and the Shetland Pony Experience. Pretty much everything was very well organized, the buses were comfortable, and the guides knowledgeable.
Loved the cabin - it was laid out so well to maximize space, and we had all the amenities needed. Loved the veranda, and used it often. The beds were super comfortable, the bathroom very nice, and we enjoyed the toiletries, robes, etc.
