We were celebrating Birthdays & Special Anniversary. The itinerary included Koi Samui and Cambodia and was the right dates. Firstly, we have been on many cruises over the years, most higher class but always enjoyed Thomson because of the wonderful service, mainly from the Phillipino and British Staffand their attention to care. However, this is our 2nd trip on Discovery mainly to give it the benefit of the doubt as we went went TUI had just acquired it and put it down to teething problems, we now know not so. The ship was badly run, food was very basic unless you paid and went into the speciality restaurants, service was either non existent or poor apart from a few stars. We found the Eastern Europeans lacking in manners, abrupt even arguing with each other in front of customers, not all but largely. No waiter service in the Theatre despite paying for Premium Drinks. Just a lot of pre poured drinks in plastic glasses, classy. Not enough sun beds on board for sea days despite having three extra of those. Lost three ports and offered £250 and £200 onboard spend which was used to go the nicer restaurants. No port showcases anymore, and although the trips we did take were good, the actual TUI staff were not very knowledgable about the destinations. We were not told when we boarded about the problems. We were not told until the following day after overhearing various passengers complaining. Despite having three extra sea days, there were no extra activities really. It is a money pot onboard with anything that is decent is chargeable. I cannot believe how what was a very good brand has turned in to a hotel at sea for drunks, We even had people fighting onboard, unbelievable. The cabins are old and tired despite being in a suite. Spacious and clean but very dated.

A sloppy pub at sea.

Cabin Review

Cabin
Dated and shabby. Coffee machine lead did not reach the plug. Small TV, hard old bed.
