Our family group of 8 persons (ages 18-82) wanted to celebrate New Years together on a cruise. We have enjoyed NCL together before, but definitely not this time.
This ship was had too many people (5000) which meant you were in line for EVERYTHING! You had to make reservations for the free shows, but still stand in line to get entrance for a good seat. Why make reservations?
We made reservations before sailing for three specialty restaurants/events and NCL had errors on each of them.
There is so much noise in the Atrium that when you go to the Passenger Service, Shore Excursion, and Computer Center desks, you have to yell to the employee so they can hear you. No way can you chat with the person next to you. Too much noise! Poor design by NCL.
Our cabins were balcony mini-suites. Looked very nice, but seemed like they should have been larger. Cabin steward was nice, did nothing extra, and told us ice comes only on request not on a daily basis. No towel animals on the beds, forgot a few replacements.
There were no enrichment presentations, but plenty of opportunities to spend money with NCL.
Yes, I can say something good about the cruise: We enjoyed the Cirque show, Wine Musical and French meals,Quartet, and the Singing Pastry Ladies at Savor for breakfast. Restaurant staff was always pleasant, although only one had the courtesy to offer alternative gluten free items rather than just write down what was ordered. Sometimes it seemed like they were training staff on this cruise and that might have been why service was slower than usual.
Caution: Do not go to the medical center to ask for help getting a prescription. It can lead to terrible results.
Getting on and off the ship was very smooth.
Would we go on the Getaway again? Definitely not. Too Large. Too Loud. No Way!
This was our best day! No crowds of people. Just sun, sand, beach, and drinks and food that cost extra. Once again NCL was ringing the cash register.
At $100 per hour this is definitely the life of the Rich and Famous.
