  3. Royal Princess
Our first cruise was on a Princess cruise and we loved every minute of it. This was prior to Carnival purchasing the cruise line. For this New Year's trip we decided to try a Princess trip again since we had never had a bad experience. Embarkation and Disembarkation went very smoothly. The ship was in very good condition. Our cabin was very nice. A suite on the back of the boat that had the largest balcony and the bathroom was also very large (tub and separate shower). Dining was great if you ate in the two premium restaurants. The main dining room had OK food. Since we had a suite, there was a separate section for us to use. Entertainment and activities were limited. They seemed to want to have more Broadway style productions. The main lobby area was the primary spot for most of the activities so it was a bit chaotic. The busiest area was the library for there was a need to play games due to the weather. Service was great in the premium dining areas but outside of that the service was somewhat disappointing. They want you to use the app for ordering drinks so the wait staff is not very attentive. It works OK but its not available in all parts of the ship. I had to chase a waiter down to have my drink delivered. The spa service needs help. First the spa is on a lower level of the ship with no windows. Some of the staff were relatively rude if you didn't upgrade to a higher priced option. This was seen more in the hair styling area. The ports were OK (although we got rain in two of them). Cabo was the worst of the three stops unless you are wanting to bar hop down the street. Mazatlan was nice and the people were very friendly. The best port is Puerto Vallarta - wish we could have stayed there longer. Overall Royal Princess is a nice ship but I think they are trying to save money with technology. This is a good idea but my previous trips on Princess were so much nicer since you dealt directly with a person and not a drink delivery service.
