Superb ship, well designed with an excellent central atrium. We hadn't travelled with MSC before, and didn't expect such an international crowd on board for a Caribbean cruise. Lots of Spanish speakers, Italians and South Americans, as well as the many North Americans you'd expect from Miami. For us, that's a very good thing, by the way, but just bear it in mind when choosing your cruise. Entertainment fully respected this, from the well-attended parties with their Eurovision vibe to the opera in the main theatre on one occasion too. Also of note is the excellent Thermal Spa, entrance to which comes free with the "Aurea experience" level of booking. We loved this. Main dining room service and food was excellent. The buffets left a bit to be desired compared to, say, Celebrity, but were OK. We also go the feeling the ship could be better staffed; the waits at the bar were sometimes quite long, and the speed of clearing tables in the buffet definitely could be improved. MSC is offering something a bit different, and is well worth a look. And check out the cabin...

Cabin Review

Aurea Grand Suite
Cabin SD3
There are three two bedroom Grand Suite rooms in this category: 11001, 12001 and 14001. They are at the front of the ship, in the centre. Along with the smaller one-bedroom suites 13001 and 15001, these are the only staterooms with balconies facing forward. So if you like the idea of a *huge* balcony with a similar view to the captain a few decks above, check these out. Access to the balcony is through an 'airlock' glass corridor.

The suites are huge, but if you have a party of four (or at a pinch, five, using the sofa) the price may be comparable to two individual two-person staterooms. It was for our cruise, anyway!

Along with the two bedrooms, there are two bathrooms, both large and fully equipped, as well as a walk-in wardrobe big enough to change in, and of course the main living area. Check out the photos. It's an excellent setup.

The only drawback is that as with any staterooms at the front of a ship, there can be a bit more movement than in the centre of the ship. Also, it's quite a long walk to the nearest stairs and elevators.
