After quite a number of Viking river cruises my wife and I decided to try one of their ocean cruises to a long awaited destination...Japan. We certainly were not disappointed! Viking has brought the best of their river cruise “philosophy” into the ocean cruising world. We felt quite at home and enjoyed this extension of Viking hospitality into the new type of adventure. As mentioned, the familiar Viking feel was present. From the design and size of the stateroom to the excellent food and beverage offerings and of course the destinations and excursions, the entire trip delivered just the right amount of luxury, style and comfort we desired.
We appreciated the lack of a casino, no sketchy auction sales or the constant push to extract money from passengers one finds on the normal cruise ship. This more refined and restful experience is the perfect way to cruise and enjoy fascinating destinations.
The design of the cabin goes a long way in providing useful space. Not a small factor, the bathroom/ shower was surprisingly spacious and added a great deal to the comfort of the stateroom. A recent “large ship” experience reinforced the superior design of the Viking stateroom!
