  3. Viking Sky
My ancestors came from Denmark and we wanted to explore the area. Went with 3 other couple. Our ship, the Viking Ski had difficulties on previous cruise in rough seas. This trip had more enclosed waters and we figured Viking would do everything possible to make our experience unforgettable. We were not disappointed. We were extremely lucky to hit the peak of tulip season and the tour of the tulip gardens at the start of the tour was perfect. Amsterdam is a great city to visit. The cruise was excellent. The stops well selected. For instance, the miniature world in Hamburg was remarkable, the statue garden in Oslo, Norway is amazing. The optional lectures give good background and history of the area. Food was excellent. The "reservation restaurants" served excellent food and did not seem that difficult to access. Service was always good. Viking ocean ships are only 900 passengers or so. Far, far better experience than a ship carrying 2,500 passengers. Two tips - first do some research on the area you will be visiting. The more you know about the area you are visiting the more you can appreciate the stops. Viking did have onboard lectures but more is better. Second, spend a few days before and/or after cruise at the embarkation or destination city. We stayed in Copenhagen for three days after cruise. We have done this on several cruises. The extra days are well worth while. You can count on Viking. It is a special cruise experience.

Good locations, good tours, excellent on board background lectures
