The NCL free promotions for dining and beverages etc is a real differentiator. I have noticed that in the last few years the cruise lines are now up charging for everything and it is very annoying. I would rather pay a little more and not have to be nickel and dimed. At RC (Royal Carribbien) and Princess you now have many items on the menu which are at additional cost. Seriously - it just ruins the experience. You don't have this at NCL. If you are in the complimentary dining areas - you can order anything off the menu and its included. Of course there are specialty restaurants - but that's ok.
The buffet is probably the best of the cruise lines I have been on - RC, Carnival, NCL and Princess. Good variety and quality. Only problem is that it ends a bit earlier than I would like. The main dining areas are ok - not great. Think Princess is the best of the 4. The service is extremely slow. I assume its the kitchen. Experienced the same issue at multiple dining areas.
The Teppanyaki restaurant was excellent. Shanghai Noodle was pretty bad.
Cabin was smaller than I am used to on other cruise lines but was enough room. Balcony also was pretty small. The only issue was some smells in the bathroom - not sure if the steward did not clean well enuf or the design of the toilet.
Waled around the French Quarter - very nice. Stayed in the Hilton right next door to the port. Very convenient.
Just walked around. Mostly endless amount of the same stores in each port.
