Although we have visited many places in the British Isles, this cruise offered a mix of new places (Orkney, Shetlands and highlands) with more familiar places (London, Edinburgh, Dublin and Belfast). Seamless arrival through Heathrow with Viking personnel making it easy. Arrival on the ship docked in the middle of the Thames off Greenwich was painless and quite a sight. Our cabin was wonderful - a bigger cabin than most with a curtain that separated the sleeping area from the sitting area and the balcony. The bathroom was very nice with a good sized showed. The cabin steward was helpful and pleasant. Viking crew were pleasant and always gave a greeting as you passed them on the ship and we helpful when you needed assistance. Even had a chance to have several pleasant conversations with ship's captain during the cruise. The excursions offered were very good and varied. One port of call is Dover and there are many excursions from there but really not much for Dover itself (which is not a great scenic place except for the castle). We took the day to walk up to the castle (quite a hike and not for the mobility challenged but there are taxis) and loved the self-guided tour of the castle and the military installation that were carved into the white cliffs below the castle (command center for evacuation from Dunkirk and a complete medical facility). Just a fantastic cruise with only one day at sea - and the Beatle show that evening was very entertaining.

Cabin Review

Spacious cabin with separate areas for sleeping and lounging (curtain can be pulled to separate areas with TVs in each area). Very nice bathroom with twin sinks and a spacious shower.

Port Reviews

Dover

Did not take an excursion - hiked up to Dover Castle. A great castle to tour with a fantastic view from the highest tower. We walked up (a bit challenging) but taxis can be used. The military installations carved into the cliffs can be toured and it is worth it. The command center for the evacuation from Dunkirk can be toured as can the complete medical facility (15 and 30 meters below the surface)
