The itinerary was why we chose it (Panama Canal), and we’d heard great things about HAL. We’ve cruised on Cunard, Celebrity (Aqua class), Azamara and Avalon. This was our worst experience. The ship itself is great, with beautiful art and public areas. The staff is wonderful and determined to please. But some real bummers. Do NOT pay money for the thermal spa - we bought a couples pass and only went twice - money down the drain. The no-stress any time dinner seating in the (beautiful) dining room is crazy - despite valiant efforts by staff there were terrible lineups and long waits at the table. The food was middling - steaks ordered rare came in a variety of done-ness, even in the Pinnacle restaurant. America’s Test Kitchen was fabulous, but we understand that partnership is over. Too bad. The other enrichment activities were not great. And the logistics did not work - things we had paid for not waiting for us, repeated reminders of reservations we had not made, strange charges on the bill. The actual passage through the Canal was absolutely brilliant and will always be remembered. Our last excursion toured Ft Lauderdale (great) then ended at the Miami airport - what a nightmare. Dumped in a very industrial area with no instructions and literally miles away from any check-in areas - we were not the only people muttering about this last bad taste in our mouth.

Lanai Ocean-View Stateroom

A bit small, but impeccably maintained and we loved the lanai. Good option.
