Boring, concierge class meaningless

  • Sail Date: Jan 2020
  • Destination: the Eastern Caribbean
  • Cabin Type: Concierge Class Stateroom with Veranda

A travel agent recommended this cruise line. The ship was just fine, save for the sewer smell in the signature bar on 5th deck. It was there every time we stopped by.

The ship skews very old -- over 70 for sure. We are 60 and 58, but we were noticeably more active than most on this ship. Besides eating, drinking, sitting at pool and gambling, there just isn't anything really to do. Except ogle a few over-the-top jewelry shops and play with your wi-fi. One excursion on swim and beach cruise on St Maarten was fine, but nothing memorable.

Next, we purchased concierge level room. It was fine again, but there was absolutely nothing that suggested it was any better than entry level. We never saw or heard from a concierge, the cabin attendant was so-so, and there was nothing to justify the upgraded status and price.

We bought all the dinner upgrades and drink packages. The dinners were fine but not memorable. The Eden they rave about was so-so food and, since were at a 9:15 reservation (only available) we had the pleasure of the staff cleaning up all around us, cleaning floors, changing silver in drawers, the whole bit. The steakhouse was fine but would not return. The interactive cartoon place, forget the name, was stupid and boring. The Raw in 5 was nice, but uncomfortably empty (we were one of like 3 tables). Staff was sitting at adjacent tables eating dinner right with us as they had nothing to do.

Finally, the cafeteria was mediocre at best, overrun with old people (even some in robes). Food was boring, and some outright gross. We went there only as last option. Dining rooms included were fine; food was overall bland. Surely to suit tastes of old people audience.

Finally, entertainment was ok at times. Best was comedian on night 1. Otherwise pretty dull. Again for old people.

We will never use Celebrity for sure, and have told the travel agent and friends/family to also avoid. It's overpriced, and the folks on board skew very old and dull.
