We did family cruise (11 people - 3 generations ages 10 to 88) for New Years 2020. Right off the bat: my wife and I have cruised MSC before (stateside and Europe) but this is our first try at a big MSC ship - it maybe our last. MSC Meraviglia is stunning but the staff seemed overwhelmed by the # of passengers. I am a firm believer in fellow cruisers can make or break a cruise. Being a NYE cruise, it was a bit crazy, really loud and obnoxious - think Carnival cruise crowd in multiple languages - we were caught in middle of german v puerto rican stand off in elevator.

What MSC did well:

-- Embarkation - quick and easy - less than 30 mins

-- Cirque show - excellent, really cool, kids enjoyed it

-- Room Steward/Wait Staff (MDR) - Willem our room steward was perfect, waiter Stephen worth the aggravation of dealing with Maitre D Mario

-- NYE Buffet - awesome

-- Buffet staff

--Macchiato served in Sky Lounge - best at sea.

What MSC Missed:

--MDR Maitre D - Mario: we needed to change from early seating to a later time, Mario was at best cavalier and dismissive (towards my wife & MIL). After third different seating on 3 consecutive nights he got it right. We had birthday celebration dinner on 2 tables (7 and 4 top - basically adult table and kids table) - tables being circular most of our group wasn't facing each other. We ordered specialty "surprise" chocolate mousse cake which arrived BEFORE dinner - thus went the birthday surprise. CAUTION: You cannot take cake out of MDR.

--Ocean Cay: Cancelled due to weather in Mexico

--Shows: other than Cirque, shows were ok. Volume, way too loud, practically ear splitting loud, ended up using Bose NC headphones to endure shows. We encourage to reserve tickets for all shows - a waste of time, MSC rarely checked if passengers had reserver tickets. Comedy shows NOT FUNNY.

--Adult lounge (21+) allowed kids. Think Jazzy daycare in what was the Sky Lounge

--Poor ventilation in casino - so odors from small smoking section in casino was everywhere

--Cirque ticketing: we booked for Saturday cocktails but ended finding out without warning cirque cancelled our showing. We only found out after waiting on line for over 2 hours when we tried to buy additional ticket for show that our original booking was cancelled.

-- Internet - not worth it

--MSC Me App - chat didn't work, cumbersome interface to add group members

--MDR Food - My biggest issue. As i stated earlier, we've done MSC in Europe and MDR food was much better compared MDR food stateside. MIL had lobster tail that was raw. NY Strip smothered with sauce because it was a inferior cut of beef (lots of grizzle). MSC crab cakes were actually crab paste McNugget concoction - odd. Other than Risotto, i don't remember a memorable MDR dinner experience. First two MDR nights - no coffee offered before dessert course, crazy??

Cabin Review

Fantastica Balcony Stateroom

due to location - balcony very deep, which was a plus

had tub instead of shower, so you'll need to be nimble to get in.
